About Artist Ednah Sarah Schwartz
Learn About Jewish Israeli Kibbutz Artist Ednah Sarah Schwartz
I was born in New York City in 1945. In 1957 I moved to Israel with my parents and brother. In 1970 I married and went to live in Kibbutz Kfar Blum – which is in the Hula Valley if the northern part of Israel. The general area is called the upper galilee and is one of the more beautiful and pastoral places. It features magnificent Israeli landscapes against the backdrop of the captivating Golan Heights. I graduated from the WIZO France High School for the arts in Tel Aviv, Israel. I then moved back to NYC where I got my BFA from Parsons School of Design. I also studied and received my certificate in Art Therapy from the New School for Social Research in NYC.
I hold an additional degree and license as a Certified Senior Teacher in Remedial and Special Education. I have certificates in the “Lam System” and “Therapeutic Puppet Theater”.
I attended extra mural courses, workshops and individual instruction with artists in the US and Israel.
I worked as an Art and Special Education teacher from second grade elementary through 11th grade high school. Additionally, I taught illiterate Senior Citizen Immigrants.
I have held a number of jobs not connected to education. Some of the jobs I had included working as a Graphic Designer and Instructor for the Ministry of Agriculture. Moreover, I was in charge of the Guest House Kitchen in Kfar Blum. This job entailed planning menus; cooking and overseeing all aspects of food preparation.
Furthermore, I was in charge of the children’s clothing department in Kfar Blum. In this capacity I changed the system from centralization to privatization, allowing parents to choose and determine what their children would wear. This job included buying the fabric, designing and overseeing all steps of clothing manufacturing, for all children from newborn to 18-year olds. An especially difficult task was designing clothing for special needs children. Throughout my “working” years I continuously pursued my own career as an artist.
